‘Exxon given the nod to mount BP takeover’

Monday, July 12th, 2010

From the thisismoney.co.uk article:

Oil giant Exxon has been given clearance by Washington to mount a £100bn bid for BP as the embattled British company undertakes a high-stakes gamble to cap the Gulf of Mexico spill.

The US government has told Exxon that it will not stand in its way if it chooses to attempt a takeover.

Sources said the American oil group – which was responsible for the world’s biggest oil spill until the disaster in the Gulf – had expressed a ’serious interest’ in the deal.

If Exxon seized BP, it would place an energy behemoth worth in excess of £250bn fully in American hands – at a time when the world is struggling to find new sources of oil.

The development came as BP removed a containment cap on the well to put a better one in its place.

During the procedure there will be no means of controlling the leak, meaning some 2.5m gallons of oil will gush into the sea until it is sealed again.

Since the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded on April 20, BP has lost more than half its share value.

Last night BP refused to comment on the takeover speculation – but conceded it could take seven days to place a better cap on the well.

Note that Nalco, the maker of Corexit–the dispersant being used in toxic quantities to further complicate the oil catastrophe–is a joint venture with BP and Exxon.

Divide and conquer has proved so successful during elections, there’s no reason why it won’t work for corporations and truly any kind of war or disaster or other method of control. Instead of providing a workable solution, we will get more of the same with a new face. Recently, Bush became Obama, and now we get to watch BP become Exxon. YES WE CAN! HOPE! CHANGE! oh, damn, south park is back on, I gotta go guys…

I’m so sick of this shit.

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

This amazing piece just popped out of the woodwork. Please read the whole thing and leave a comment sharing your thoughts. This is one of those controversial pieces that will surely generate many a perspective.

For your consideration, here is the full letter as found at

Reflections by comrade Fidel

KNOWING THE TRUTH TIMELY

As I was writing every one of my previous Reflections, and a catastrophe was quickly zeroing in on humanity, my major concern was to fulfill the primary duty to inform our people.

Today, I feel more relax than 26 days ago. As the situation evolves, I can reiterate and expand on the information to the national and international public.

Obama has committed to attend the quarterfinals match on July 2, if his country’s team makes it to that stage. He supposedly knows better than anyone that the quarterfinals will not be contested because very serious developments will take place before that; or at least he should know.

Last Friday, June 25, an international press agency known for the attention to details in its reports, published a statement by the “…Navy Commander of the elite Corps of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution General Ali Fadavi…,” warning “…that if the United States and its allies inspect Iranian ships in international waters ‘they will have their response in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.’”

The information was taken from the local news agency Mehr of Iran.

According to the press dispatch, said news agency reported that “Fadavi added that ‘the Navy of the Revolutionary Guardians currently has hundreds of vessels equipped with missile launchers.’”

“Iran’s Leader: Feb. 11 To Be ‘Demise’ of ‘Capitalist System’ “

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

From the CNSNews.com article:

(CNSNews.com) – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that Feb. 11 would mark the demise of “the liberal capitalist system,” adding that its champion, America, was on the decline and that Iran and its Islamic Revolution were on the rise.

According to a Jan. 28 translation from BBC Monitoring Middle East, Ahmadinejad spoke on official Iranian television, saying that this year’s “Ten Days of Dawn” celebration, marking the anniversary of the country’s Islamic Revolution, would see the “demise” of the American system.

“I believe that 22 Bahman [ February 11 in the Persian calendar] this year marks the demise of the liberal capitalist system.” Ahmadinejad said.

[. . .]

“Maybe in 1359-60 [1980-81] our presence was only an announcement of our existence and strength,” he said. “It was to consolidate the revolution. Where have we got now? We have got to a point that the hegemony of arrogance [reference to the United States] has been undermined. Nations do not trust it anymore. Its principles are under question. Its efficiency is close to zero. Its power curve is dropping quickly.”

[. . .]

“The arrogant and hegemonic powers, which mankind experienced in the past 300 years – and past 60 years in particular – have been the biggest historical impediment in the face of fulfillment of this goal,” he said, according to the BBC.

[. . .]

“It is clear that the materialistic and hegemonic system has reached the end of the road, both theoretically and practically,” he said. “Forty years ago when someone mentioned the name of America, many would drool. In the minds of many, America had a mythical and invincible power.”

“Slogans of freedom, human rights, democracy, and the right to decide your own fate, were so attractive that [they] misled many,” he continued. “Today, they have no thoughts or means other than the use of arms to prove themselves.”

[. . .]

“This means the end of a civilization, the end of a thought, and the end of a system,” said Ahmadinejad.
